João Serras de Sousa

Graduated in Law (2015), he is a Guest Lecturer in the Legal Sciences group at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, and is currently preparing his PhD dissertation. He has taught the subjects of Contract Law I and Real Rights, and his areas of research are Civil, Commercial and Corporate Law.Executive coordinator of the Postgraduate Course in Real Estate Law (2021-present), is/was a speaker in several postgraduate courses (Civil Liability, Banking Law, Corporate Governance, Corporate Finance, Insolvency, Insurance, E-commerce, among others ). He is a researcher at the Lisbon DAO Observatory.He has held several academic roles, namely as a teaching member of the Academic Council (2015-2017) and the Pedagogical Council (2015-2017, 2018-2020, 2021-present).Registered with the Portuguese Bar Association (2016), he is currently a lawyer at PLMJ Advogados, SP, RL and a researcher at the Research Centre for Private Law (CIDP).

Jorge Duarte Pinheiro

J.D. (1989), L.L.M. in Law (1995) and Ph.D. in Law (2004), degrees earned through the University of Lisbon School of Law (Portugal), where he teaches since 1989. Associate Professor (since 2008) and Tenured Professor (since 2010) of the University of Lisbon School of Law, where he has been teaching Family Law, Succession Law and Children Law. Lecturer in meetings, conferences and short courses about law issues (Portugal, Brazil, U.S.A., India, Angola, Mozambique). Portuguese national reporter for the XVIIIth International Congress of Comparative Law (report topic: “Same-sex marriages”), Washington D.C., 2010. Author of manuals on Family Law (5th edition in 2016 and 1 reprint in 2017) and Succession Law (2nd edition and 2 reprints in 2017). Permanent reviewer for the scientific magazine Lex Familiae (since its beginning, 2004), and member of the Scientific Council of Revista Brasileira de Direito das Famílias e Sucessões (since 2008). He was a member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary,responsible forsupervising the Portuguese Judicature (2004-2005) and Dean of the University of Lisbon School of Law (2014-2015). He is a member of two structures of the training school for portuguese magistrates, Centro de Estudos Judiciários (General Council and Pedagogic Council, since 2016), and Law Consultant.

José Alves de Brito

Law degree (1998), Master in Law (2006) and PhD in Law (2017), currently holds the position of Auxiliary Professor in the Legal Sciences Group in Lisbon Law School. As an Intern University Assistant, and later on as University Assistant, he collaborated in Civil Procedure Law, Introduction to Legal Studies, Commercial Law and Contract Law. He is co-responsible for Insurance Law in Lisbon Law School Master's Degree. Formerly a lawyer, he is the author of several articles in Civil Procedure Law and Insurance Law. He is Lusitania’s, Companhia de Seguros, SA, Ombudsman.

Was Academic Visitor at Oxford University Faculty of Law,Visiting Scholar and Research Fellowat Columbia University (2007-2008), researcherat Ludwig‑Maximilians-Universität München (Munich) andatMax-Planck-Institutfür ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht (Hamburg) (several periods from 2008 to 2013), andscholarship holder in the latter (2012).Is a member of the Private Law Institute (IDP) and of the Research Centre for Private Law (CIDP) of the FDUL,of the executive commission of theCódigo das Sociedades Comerciais Anotado, of the board of directors of the Erasmus and International Relations Office of the FDUL, of the Portuguese Arbitration Association, of theClub Español e Iberoamericano del Arbitraje, of theFreunde des Hamburger Max-Planck-Instituts für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht e.V., and of theGovernance Lab. Practiced law between 2001 and 2007 at Uría Menéndez. In2013-2014 was head of legal of the Issuers Department of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM).Between 2014 and 2021, was an external advisor to the CMVM, advising the Board of Directors and various departments on regulatory and supervisory matters.His research focuses on civil and commercial law. He has recently published books on M&A and the law of listed companies.

Bachelor (1983), Master (1994), Doctor (2007), Aggregation (2020) in Law. He is Associate Professor with Aggregation of the Legal Sciences Group at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. He held several academic roles, including member of the Scientific Council (2008-2011); Pedagogical Council (2011-13); School Council (2013-2015 and 2015-2017). He also served on the Postgraduate Studies Committee and the Brazilian Law Institute, as its Vice-President, between 2012 and 2015. He has taught the subjects of Real Rights, Civil Procedural Law I, II and III, Contract Law I, Graduation; Registration and Notary Law, Probation Law and Real Rights II, in the Master's Degree in Legal Practice; Environmental Law and Civil Procedural Law, in the Scientific Master's degree, and Introduction to Law, in the Doctorate. He is the author of monographs, book chapters and legal articles in the areas of Real Rights, Civil Procedural Law, Culture and Cultural Heritage Law, Insurance Law and Animal Rights. He is a Member of the Luso-German Association of Jurists (DJLV), the Brazilian Institute of Cultural Heritage Law (IBDPC) and the Brazilian Association of Procedural Law (ABDpro). He was a lawyer, Deputy to the Assembly of the Republic (1985-1991), Head of the Office of the Secretary of State for Culture (2002-2004) and Member of the Superior Council of the Public Ministry (2011-2014).
