A. Barreto Menezes Cordeiro

António Manuel Barreto Espadinha de Menezes Cordeiro, who also signs A. Barreto Menezes Cordeiro, was born in Lisbon in 1985. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2008), received an LLM from King’s College London (2009) and a PhD from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2014). He is a Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon since 2013, where he has taught in the areas of Civil Law, Banking Law, Securities Law, Comparative Law and Commercial Company Law, and at the European University (Laureate Group) since 2015, where he has taught in the areas of Civil Law. He has authored more than 40 publications, includingDa simulação no Direito civil (2014),Do trust no Direito civil (2014),Direito dos valores mobiliários, Vol. I (2015),Manual de Direito dos valores mobiliários (2016) andDireito inglês dos contratos, Vol. I (2017). He is a founder and member of the editorial board of the Revista de Direito Civil (2014) and member of the editorial board of the Revista de Direito das Sociedades (2014). He is Vice-President of the Consumer Law Institute, since 2016, and was Vice-President of the Brazilian Law Institute in 2016 and 2017. Arbitrator and Jurisconsult.

Graduated (2009) and Master (academic part), currently preparing her doctoral dissertation in Legal Sciences. Researcher at the Lisbon Research Centre for Private Law – CIDP (since 2014). Coordinator of the Advanced Postgraduate Course in Banking Law (since 2015), of the Preparation Course for Admission to the Centre for Judicial Studies (since 2018), and of the Intensive Course in Financial Intermediation (to start in 2019). Her favourite research areas are Civil Law, Civil Procedural Law, Commercial Law, Banking and Securities Law. Received several scholarships and research awards from national and international institutions. Coordinator of several conferences and seminars in the areas of Banking Law, Securities Law, Civil Law and Civil Procedural Law. Speaker in several courses and conferences. In postgraduation programmes, she teaches in subjects of Banking Law, Securities Law, Investment Funds, Commercial Litigation, Insolvency Law, FinTech, Corporate Governance, E-Commerce, Contract Law and Data Protection. Author of publications in the areas of Banking and Securities Law, Business Law and Civil Procedure, and coordinator of the book collection Estudos de Direito Bancário (Studies of Banking Law), launched in 2018 and to comprise several volumes. Lawyer at Cuatrecasas (since 2009) and legal consultant, with professional practice in the areas of Banking, M&A, Capital Markets and Private Equity.

Member of the Management Committee of the Resolution Fund — Banco de Portugal. Member of the list of arbitrators of the Commercial Arbitration Centre of the Lisbon Commercial Association and the Commercial Arbitration Institute of the Porto Commercial Association. António Barroso Rodrigues

He obtained his Law degree, followed by a Master's degree. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in Legal Sciences at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon. He has been actively engaged as a Guest Lecturer at the same Faculty, teaching various subjects, including Law of Obligations and Contracts, Rights in Rem, Family Law, and Law of Succession. Furthermore, he holds a research membership at the Research Centre for Private Law, where he not only serves as a speaker for various postgraduate courses but also acts as the executive coordinator for the Postgraduate Course in Civil Liability. He is an active member of several legal associations, including the IDC - Association for the Study of Consumer Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon, theDeutsch-Lusitanische Juristenvereinigung(Luso-German Jurists' Association), International Law Association, Society of European Contract Law (SECOLA), and the Associação Lusófona de Arbitragem e Mediação. In 2016, he collaborated with the Ministry of Justice to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Civil Code. Additionally, he served as a Legal Advisor to the Secretary of State of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers from 2018 to 2019. His research activities primarily focus on Civil Law, and he has published several notable works in this field. His areas of expertise include Law of Obligations and Contracts, General Theory of Civil Law, Rights in Rem, Arbitration, Consumer Law, and Civil Procedural Law. He frequently participates as a speaker at conferences within these domains. He also conducts research at renowned foreign universities, including theJuristische Fakultät der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitätin Munich, theJuristische Fakultät der Humboldt Universitätin Berlin, and theJuristische Fakultätof Heidelberg University in Germany. Since his admission to the Portuguese Bar Association in 2017, he has been practicing law and providing legal consultancy services in Lisbon.

Law degree (1975), PhD (1985) with aggregation (1996) in Law, Full Professorat the Lisbon University School of Law and Dean of the Legal Sciences Group. Held several academic positions, namely as President of the Directive Council (1989-1991) and as President of the Scientific Council (1998-2001) of the Lisbon University School of Law. In the graduation course he has taught or is teaching the disciplines Theory of Law, Rights in rem, Law of Obligations, Introduction to the Study of Law, General Theory of Civil Law, Philosophy of Law, Law of Economics, Labour Law, Banking Law and Commercial Law. Author of more than three hundred publications. Among these works stand out Da boa fé (1984, seven reprints), Tratado de Direito Civil (11 volumes), Direito do trabalho, Direito Bancário, Direito Comercial, Direito das Sociedades, Direito dos Seguros and Tratado da Arbitragem. Director of Revista de Direito das Sociedades and of Revista de Direito Civil, Deputy Director of Revista O Direito and member of theEditorial Board of Revista da Ordem dos Advogados, of which he was Deputy Director from 1990 to 2010. Legal consultant, national and international arbitrator and lawyer, being a founding member of the law firm António Menezes Cordeiro & Associados. President of CIDP and IDP (2014-2023).
